Our Story

From a backyard in Virginia to one acre in Conway, North Carolina.

How we got here.

  1. 2024 · Learning

We began educating ourselves in earnest — reading, attending farming events and workshops, and building the knowledge base that would shape everything that followed.

  2. Spring 2025 · Wilson, NC

We started planting in earnest on a rental farm in Wilson. Seeds in the ground, systems being tested, and a vision starting to take shape.

  3. October 2025 · Wilson → Conway

We began operating between two locations — the Wilson rental and our Conway property — running both simultaneously as we transitioned toward our permanent home.

  4. 2026 · Conway, NC

Our first chickens arrived at the Conway farm. By the end of September 2026 we had fully moved off the Wilson rental and Finca del Alma was rooted in one place.

Our Mission

From Soil to Soul — to produce nourishing food, care for animals responsibly, return nutrients to the land, and help families grow food close to home.

Our Vision

To become a sanctuary where people learn to embody wholeness and to wisely steward their own space.

Why eggs?

Eggs were the beginning. Three hens in a Virginia backyard taught us more about food, seasons, and patience than anything else we'd tried.

A farm-fresh egg — deep orange yolk, thick white, laid that morning — is a completely different thing from what you find at the grocery store. Once you know the difference, it's hard to go back.

Chickens also eat kitchen scraps, fertilize the garden, and keep the bug population honest. They were our gateway animal — and they still are.

Rafael and Danita, the farmers behind Finca del Alma

Meet Rafael & Danita

Rafael & Danita Morales Ramos

Rafael grew up on a farm deep in the jungle of Petén, Guatemala — where growing your own food wasn't a lifestyle choice, it was survival. There were no stores nearby. You grew what you ate, and you knew exactly where everything came from. That knowledge lives in his hands.

Danita grew up in the suburbs, though she holds a faint and fond memory of her father's garden — planted by his uncle — and the sunflowers that towered over everything. That image never really left her.

How did we end up here? Rafael loves eggs. During the egg shortage we walked into Tractor Supply for herb garden supplies, spotted the baby chicks, and — being the spontaneous people we are — walked out as chicken keepers. A few months later we were driving down a highway in Wilson, NC, saw goats for sale on the side of the road, and thought: why not? Little did we know.

What farming has taught us is this: plan the farm, and let nature be spontaneous. We're still learning — and we wouldn't have it any other way.

The farm through the seasons.
